Refund Policy

Our promise: Your deposit is fully refundable until the season begins. No questions, no fine print, no hassle. If we can't deliver what we promised, you get your money back.
This Refund Policy explains when and how we refund payments made to Makai. It applies to all payments made through our website at www.makai.farm, including founding member deposits and seasonal payments.

1. Deposit refunds
When you reserve a founding member plot, you pay a ₹2,000 deposit. This deposit is fully refundable in the following situations:
- You change your mind. Any time before the season officially begins, you can request a full refund of your deposit. No reason needed.
- Our crop list doesn't suit you. If our seasonal crop selection doesn't match what your family eats, we'll refund your deposit in full.
- We can't deliver to your area. If your delivery location turns out to be outside our serviceable radius, you get a full refund.
- The season doesn't launch. If we decide not to proceed with the season for any reason — market conditions, operational challenges, or otherwise — you get a full refund.
- You're not in our final cohort. If we cap our season at fewer members than we received deposits for, refunds will be issued automatically to those not included.
Once the season has officially begun and we've started growing crops specifically for your plot, deposit refunds may transition to pro-rated refunds depending on circumstances — see Section 2.
2. Seasonal payment refunds
The founding member full price is ₹6,500 per season. After your deposit is paid, the remaining ₹4,500 is invoiced separately closer to the season start, only after you confirm participation.
Refunds for the seasonal payment depend on when you request the cancellation:
- Before crops are planted for your plot: Full refund of any amount paid, including the deposit.
- After crops are planted but before first delivery: Pro-rated refund of approximately 60-75% of seasonal payment, accounting for seed, soil prep, and operational costs already incurred for your plot.
- After deliveries have begun: Pro-rated refund based on the number of deliveries you have not yet received, calculated as: (remaining deliveries / total deliveries) × seasonal payment, minus a small administration fee.
- After season completion: Seasonal payments are not refundable once the full season has been delivered.
We don't believe in trapping customers. If something goes wrong on your end — a move, a financial change, a family emergency — talk to us directly. We will work with you to find a fair resolution.
3. If we can't deliver
Farming is unpredictable. Weather, pests, and seasonal variability are part of growing real food. Here's how we handle situations where we can't deliver what we promised:
- Partial crop failure. If one or more crops fail but others succeed, we will adjust your remaining deliveries with available substitutes from our farm, and inform you proactively. No refund is automatically triggered for partial substitution, but you may request a pro-rated adjustment if the substitution doesn't meet your needs.
- Significant yield shortfall. If total deliveries fall meaningfully short of what was promised (more than 25% below the stated minimum range), we will issue a pro-rated refund for the shortfall, calculated honestly and shared transparently.
- Season cancellation. If we cannot complete the season for any reason (catastrophic crop failure, force majeure, business cessation), you receive a full refund of all amounts paid for deliveries you did not receive.
- Delivery problems on our end. If we miss a delivery due to our own error or logistics failure, we will either reschedule or refund the value of that delivery, your choice.
We will always communicate honestly about what is happening on the farm. You will not have to chase us for information.
4. How to request a refund
To request a refund, contact us through any of these channels:

- Direct reply: Reply to any email or WhatsApp message you have received from us
When requesting a refund, please include:
- The name and email associated with your deposit
- The approximate date you made the payment
- Optionally, the reason for cancellation (helpful but not required)
We will respond within 2 business days to confirm your refund request.
5. Refund processing time
Once your refund is approved:
- Razorpay processing: We initiate the refund through Razorpay within 2 business days of approval.
- Bank credit: The refund typically appears in your account within 5-7 business days from initiation, depending on your bank.
- Total time: Most refunds complete within 7-10 business days from when you contacted us.
Refunds are always credited back to the original payment method. We cannot refund to a different card, bank account, or UPI ID.
If you do not see your refund after 10 business days, please email us at hello@makai.farm with your refund reference number and we will track it down with Razorpay on your behalf.
6. What is not refundable
The following are not eligible for refund:
- Deliveries already received. Vegetables that have been delivered to you and accepted are considered fulfilled. If you are dissatisfied with the quality of a specific delivery, contact us within 24 hours and we will address the issue case-by-case.
- Missed deliveries due to customer unavailability. If we attempt delivery and you are not available to receive it (and have not informed us in advance), we cannot refund that delivery. We will make reasonable efforts to reschedule.
- Spoilage after delivery. Once vegetables are handed off to you or left at your agreed delivery point, we are not responsible for spoilage caused by improper storage or handling on your end.
- Optional add-ons. Any optional add-on products or services purchased separately may have their own refund terms, which will be communicated at the time of purchase.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Refund Policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will not apply retroactively to deposits or payments already made — your refund terms are locked in at the time you paid.
